Welcome To my website!
Hello! Welcome to my corner of the internet :) I'm Karim El-Sharkawy, a Mathematician with a keen interest in applied mathematics and environmental data science. My passion lies in exploring the nexus between mathematics and environmental studies, driven by a deep-seated commitment to sustainability. My career goal is to become an environmental data scientist working to use machine learning to improve the environment. On this website, you can find my research, projects, and outreach to reach this goal! From exploring novel mathematical models to collaborating on interdisciplinary projects, I'm dedicated to pushing the boundaries of knowledge and innovation in pursuit of a greener future.
But life isn't just about work, right? Beyond academia, I enjoy learning new languages and reading poetry. I'm working on my German right now, which is good but still needs some improvements! I plan on learning Korean and Malay after. Below, you'll find my motivations, goals, and resume. Have a great day! |
The Prophet Muhammad, Peace Be Upon Him, said
“Verily, God is beautiful and He loves beauty”
“Verily, God is beautiful and He loves beauty”
Motivation
I made this site to showcase some of my work and research interests within Mathematics and Environmental Data Science. Moreover, I use it to express my love for math, environmentalism (socially and scientific), and language(s), especially poetry.
As a Muslim, my motivations come from the Quran and quotes from the Prophet Muhammad. The quote above expresses my love for beauty and attaining it. The Prophet Muhammad is talking about being beautiful on the outside and the inside, by dressing well and having good moral character. I choose to interpret that he's also talking about everything else, the earth, our studies, etc. I see this beauty in mathematics, poetry, the environment, and languages, so I pursue them and try to work on them GoalsThe most important goal for me is to become closer to God. I am always trying to better my manners and disposition and become like the Prophet Muhammad in every way. I have a love for math, although it's unrequited. I want to constantly improve my math, specifically in the fields of Abstract Algebra and analysis. Moreover, become more mathematically mature in the process. For my language learning, it's to become fluent in German and start working on Korean.
